| The Maeda family, lords of Kaga, created a new culture centering on Kanazawa and boasted prosperity second only to that of Kyoto and Edo. The Maeda family invited craftsmen from the Goto family and Fushimi, Kyoto, to create elegant and gorgeous works called Kaga zogan (inlaying), which made extensive use of gold and silver. These beautiful works were made not on iron, but on copper or shibuichi surface, using an abundance of high-quality gold to delicately design flowers, birds, insects, and family crests, etc., and then inlaid in a flat pattern. This fuchi-kashira is a Hollyhock Leaves and Vines with exquisite nanako pattern, which has been attributed to the Kaga-kinko Tradition and has passed the Hozon shinsa in 2024. |
