| Shoshitsuki was a demon who stole a sacred jewel from Buddha and ran away. Idaten is the deity of law, truth, purity, legal victory and justice. He is a protector of monasteries and has miraculous speed. He chased Shoshitsuki to get back the jewel and confronted him. He took back the sacred jewel from Shoshitsuki safely. Idaten is a reference to someone who can run very quickly. This pair of Menuki depicts the story of the two. It is Mumei but has been attributed to the Ko-kinko Tradition. It is made from Shakudo with details in gold. It has passed the Hozon Tosogu in 2021. |
