Other Info
| This metal artisan, Masakuni lived in Karatsu, Hizen Province, and Edo during the mid-Edo period, when the Doi family ruled. He was inscribed as "Masakuni from Karatsu" and "Masakuni from Bushu". The iron base round tsuba features old-fashioned thread open work and gold overlay, as well as an elaborate style of shakudo base. This work is one of Masakuni's specialties, with refined iron in the shape of a go stone with a uchikaeshi style rim and a broken pine needle for thread open work. It has passed the Hozon shinsa in August 2024. |
