| This is a long-inscribed tsuba with the following mei : "Front: Akasaka of Bushu [武州住 赤坂], Back: Made by Hikojuro Tadatoki [彦十郎 忠時作]." From the fourth to the ninth generation of Akasaka Tadatoki, the craftsman's name was used by Tadatoki, and he took the name Hikojuro. From Tadatoki onwards, the style was influenced by other schools such as Higo and Ito, rather than the original Akasaka style. The first Tadatoki (fourth Akasaka) passed away in 1746, the second Tadatoki passed away in 1764, the third Tadatoki passed away in 1796, the fourth Tadatoki passed away in 1805, and the death years of the fifth and sixth Tadatoki are unknown. This tsuba has different sizes of the left and right hit-ana holes, and the inscription is similar to that of the second Tadatoki. A refined, Key Fret Pattern Openwork tsuba. It has passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2024. |
