Other Info
| This unsigned magnificent wakizashi has been attributed to the Owari-seki Tradition. Owari-seki swordsmiths were moved from Seki, Mino Province to Kiyosu to Nagoya in Owari Province during the Momoyama period. This work features a gentle gunome-midare and sugu-yakidashi hamon pattern with some togari-ba in the Mino tradition. The characteristics of the representative swordsmiths of Owari-seki, Wakasa-no-kami Ujifusa [若狭守氏房], Hida-no-kami Ujifusa [飛騨守氏房], Sagami-no-kami Masatsune [相模守政常], Hoki-no-kami Nobutaka [伯耆守信高], and Hata Mitsuyo [秦光代], are seen. The attached Waizashi style koshirae with an Aogai-mijin-shimanuri saya is likely a special order based on the theme of a dragon soaring through the sky. Made by Kanbayashi Tsunehira [上林恒平] (now 76 years old), who was recognized for his top-class skills and certified as an Mukansa [無鑑査] swordsmith in 1985, engraved his name on the tsuba and kozuka. The habaki is also a custom order item. This wakizashi has passed the Hozon Token shinsa in 2024. |
